5 THINGS YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY CONSIDER WHILE DESIGNING YOUR COUNTER DISPLAY BOXES
Consumers walk into retail stores (or log onto online retail platforms) with a concrete idea of what they need. Consumer spending is need-based. If you have used a product, you will spend money on it. In this day and age, these excellent ideas have become nearly obsolete.
Modern directed marketing has fundamentally changed consumer behavior. The “use” factor has now been replaced by the “wow” factor. Products and brands which manage to inspire awe in their clientele make headway. In contrast, those focusing solely on the product (even if their product is slightly better) tend to lose out.
I don’t mean to say that products do not matter at all. My point is that even though your product and its quality remain the central component of a successful sale, it is no longer the only one.
The contemporary market place is brimming with (almost) similar products offered by different brands. Why will the consumer swim through this ocean for your product? What’s your “hook”?
Owing to these facts, modern businesses have progressively bloating marketing budgets. Intensely focusing on all the different possible frontiers. And what could be more critical frontier than the point from which the consumer is going to pick up your product? The “counter.”
Marketing firms are continually coming up with fresh ideas to help products pop out (both literally and figuratively) of the counter. Custom counter display boxes offer the perfect site to these innovations.
Investing in, adequately, impressive counter displays is not a choice but a necessity these days.
A survey by a massive retail chain (it is precisely the one you are thinking about) has revealed that a startling ~68% of all retail sales are the result of impulse buying. In other words, the “hook” we talked about before.
Custom Display Boxes can be extremely instrumental in helping you tap into this chunk of the market. An adequately designed box relates to the consumer on a deeper level and has (much required) recall value. Which not only can ensure a sale but also triggers repeat purchases. In other words, if the box leaves a lasting impact on the consumers, they will swim through an ocean of products to find yours.
CONVINCED ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF A GOOD COUNTER DISPLAY? NEED HELP DESIGNING ONE?
Designing perfect custom-made display boxes for your products can prove to be a (somewhat) daunting task. With the so many options available on the market, businesses (especially smaller ones) tend to get confused. And this is nothing to be ashamed of. It’s like we all took a counter packaging class in elementary school. Do not be distressed. Here is a quick guide to designing ideal counter display boxes for your product.
So, without further a due
Here we go
CUSTOMERS BUY YOUR BRAND ALONG WITH YOUR PRODUCT
Customers tend to seamlessly buy products from brands they trust. Your product’s campaign should be perfectly fit into your brand’s broader identity. The core advantage of doing so is the ability to transfer “hype” from a better selling product to a relatively newer one.
A product’s custom printed display boxes should represent your product and your brand.
Your brand identity represents the personality and values your brand depicts. Consumers (pre-dominantly) relate to the identity of a brand instead of an individual product.
People literally brawl over them (think: Apple vs. Samsung or Coke vs. Pepsi).
PICKING THE RIGHT MATERIAL
Display boxes are typically made using three materials.
Although, some exquisite products such as cigars or cosmetics are sometimes displayed using wooden counter displays (and much more).
In my (humble) opinion, plastic and cardboard are largely interchangeable materials because the end product gives off a similar ambiance regardless. With one possible exception, custom cardboard display boxes are recyclable. And consumers care about it.
Acrylic (caution: this material is not eco-friendly) is a different story, though. Acrylic is basically cheap exquisiteness. The transparent box can do wonders, especially with billing counter displays (imagine candies).
YOUR BOX IS A CONTAINER AFTER ALL. DON’T FORGET ABOUT YOUR PRODUCT
The build, design, and aura of your packaging is mostly dependent on your product. Obviously, a box housing chocolate will differ from custom lip balm display boxes. So before entering the display design phase, you should have clear answers to the following questions
What are the “exact” dimensions of the product?
Is the product fragile?
What does the per Unit cost?
Because the box will “necessarily” need to entertain these questions.
But do not fall into the trap of the “product box.”
Mostly similar products can have starkly plain packaging depending on the money, time, and creativity you put into the box.
For instance, ORIGAMI TEA BAGS. Enough said.
The only reason I choose to discuss “shapes” is to tell you that there is no such thing as “shapes” while designing custom made display boxes. Think of bears with honey in them (hint: not a standard shape). Do not limit yourself to the cult of the usual way. Think outside the “BOX” and experiment and remember when it comes to marketing, “there is no such thing as a weird idea.”
PACKAGING SHOULD INFORM
Modern consumers read the box. It can be to analyze the contents, to check if the product is abuse-free or green or to even look at the expiry. And then, of course, there are federal regulations about “product transparency.” Certain information has to be on the box. And the tagline.
Have a clear idea of what you have to and want to put on the box. The content should be engaging. But remember, it is not a novel. Don’t flood the box with letters. Decide an appropriate place on the custom retail display boxes, depending on the prominence you want to allot to the content. And
IN THE END
Proper packaging is the key, and listed above are tips on how to create one. But remember, even though packaging can boost sales, nothing is absolute.
But even if the product does not sell. Your custom counter display boxes can also act as supplementary marketing. Famous researches have pointed out that if a product secures 7 views on a shopping trip, it’ll sell. And displays are tiny billboards on the cash counter.
Happy packaging …
