Can Bifocal Spectacle Wearers use Contact Lenses

Bifocal Multifocal Contact Lenses are now created to improve the health of your eyes by providing precise vision more comfortably and efficiently.

Multifocal Contact Lenses

If you suffer from presbyopia, multifocal contact lenses are currently available for visual correction. New technologies have produced exceptionally well designed multifocal contact lenses, to provide you with comfortable distance and near vision.

You can now enjoy good vision without the encumberance of bulky glasses and enjoy a far more natural sight. Because a multifocal contact lens is placed directly on the eye and moves as the eye moves, there is no adaptation to looking through a certain part of the lens, as is the case with spectacle lenses.

How Do they Work

Because multifocals have two or more prescriptions in the same lens, there can be some interference in vision for each eye separately, however; when the two eyes work together, usually overall vision is good. Most of the multifocal lenses that are currently available are designed with a concentric or simultaneous vision design. The near portion of the prescription may be in the center of the lens, with the distance portion in the surround or conversely, the distance portion may be in the center with the near portion in the surround.

What Types of Lenses are Available

Multifocal lenses are available in both monthly and daily modalities. This gives the patient the choices of wearing the same lens for a one month period, removing and disinfecting it nightly, or putting in a fresh lens daily and discarding it at night.

The second option is particularly attractive for those who would like to wear contact lenses only occasionally, perhaps for social occasions or sports activities
