Baby Massage

Baby Massage is a wonderful parenting tool and very beneficial for helping your baby get a good night sleep. The benefits of this loving touch can begin as early as the first few hours of life, and the baby massage program continues to offer its diverse benefits as your child grows. In the beginning, research supports the fact the massage can be used for relieving symptoms of gas/colic, increase weight gain, and assists in the improvement of sleep patterns.

As your child blossoms into toddler and preschool years, intentional therapeutic touch can help to alleviate growing pains, improve body awareness and body image as well as promote the potential of a lifetime of healthy parent-child communication.

Here is a list of a few more benefits that the power of touch has to offer to babies:

• Decrease in pain and symptoms related to teething

• Decrease in sinus drainage and congestion

• Improved circulation

• Induction of the Parasympathetic Nervous System which will relax the baby

Baby Sleep and their Environment

We want to be sure that the environment for our baby is conducive to good sleep patterns and here are a few suggestions to create just that.

• Black out curtain to help increase melatonin our natural sleep hormone and block out sun so that baby isn’t woken with peeks of sun coming into their room too early.

• Night light so baby isn’t in complete darkness and gets scared.

• Swaddle for babies not rolling over to help with the startle reflex and not waking as often or sleep sack for babies who are rolling to help protect limbs from getting stuck in crib slats and eventually to protect baby from falling or climbing out of crib.

• White noise machine to help drown out all the noises in the house so you can “live” in your home and the noise will also be a great sleep queue as to when is sleep and wake time.

Follow this routine to improve your baby’s sleep and in turn parents will get the much-needed rest through the night to be ready for the next day.

Schedule 30 min of calm down before bedtime for the baby bath, a touch massage, to read a story, or sing a lullaby.

When the baby is napping during the day have 5-10 min before nap time to snuggle, change diaper, and sing them a comforting song.
