Tiny Home Kits: 4 Models Reviewed

Tiny home kits are a way to get your tiny home built quickly and economically using simple hand tools. Check out these 4 beauties.

Tiny home kits are a way to get your tiny home built quickly and economically if you are capable of using simple hand tools. Many of the tiny home kits we review in this post can be assembled into house shells in two days by two people using hammers, screwdrivers and a step-ladder.

In this post, I am reviewing houses that are designed for permanent locations although some of the smaller ones can be constructed on trailers so that they become tiny homes on wheels (THOW's) which can be moved to different locations.

Some of the kits available in our store, from other online stores and manufacturers, are not designed for permanent, year-round living except in warm climates.  Others have extra insulation options for the colder parts of North America. Some kits are only shipped to North American destinations.

This post focuses on tiny home kits, if you are looking for information on plans for tiny homes, visit our store and read this post for more information on tiny home plans.

The Allwood range of wooden tiny home kits

Allwood provides kits for cabins and houses up to 1336 SQF which is way bigger than a tiny or even a small home. Today I am going to bring you details for three smaller tiny home kits under 500 SQF and one slightly larger but still a tiny home. Cabins are not designed for permanent all season living. They could be useful for tiny home owners as additional accommodation for occasional visitors and will feature in a future post.

Kits for the larger models are designed for year round living in colder climates by experts in Arctic housing design. The timber for the kits is prepared in Scandinavia and shipped to customers in North America.

All the kits are made from dense grain, slow grown, Nordic Spruce. All kits include:

  • Floor and roof construction materials
  • Pre-hung and glazed double door and windows
  • Pre-assembled gables
  • All nails, screws, fixings, handles and door locks
  • Special long screws to secure layers of wall planks.
  • Easy to follow instructions

Certain items, for example, ladders, storage lofts, shutters and window boxes can be supplied as options depending on the chosen design.

Final roofing material is not supplied with the kits, you would select and buy your preferred shingles or alternative type of roofing. Trailers and material to construct foundations, where necessary, are not included. Electrical and plumbing supplies are not included.

Free shipping may be available, please click on each individual product link to check current status.

Due to the size and weight of the crates with the materials for this model and the height of the roof, a forklift, small crane or loader tractor would make the assembly easier and safer.

This model may also qualify as an ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) in some areas of the USA. Check out the regulations for your area here.

Conclusion

There are many cheaper tiny home kits available that will allow you to build an attractive home, however, most of these are not suitable for year round living. They are designed for temporary accommodation and will not provide protection in cold winter conditions.

If you are thinking of building your tiny home from a kit, we would recommend that you check out the Allwood range featured above for your comfort and safety.

Buying an Allwood tiny home kit will give you the satisfaction of building your own safe, comfortable, well-designed home economically.
