What Makes The Healthy Owl's Baked Goods Different?

At The Healthy Owl our mission is to serve up food we can be proud of. Here are a few things that make our baked goods different and healthier.

we bake them in small batches

The Healthy Owl believes that fresh is always the best. Since we bake in small batches each day it allows us to reduce the oil and fats. We replace them with ingredients like fruit, vegetable purees, egg whites, yogurt and buttermilk. These ingredients keep the ‘moist and soft’ texture that we all love about baked goods, while simultaneously increasing the healthy ingredients and reducing the less healthy ones.

We believe in producing the best quality food for our customers. Yes, it is more efficient and less expensive to bake in large batches once a week, freeze and thaw as needed, but this requires increased fat/oil, additives and artificial ingredients to maintain that moist, fresh consistency. But, that would result in higher calorie and less healthy baked goods.

we use whole wheat flour

In addition to the reduced fats and increased healthier substitutes, we also incorporate whole wheat flour whenever possible to increase the fibre content in our baked goods.

A study in 2012 by the National Institutes of Health showed that a diet rich in whole grains both lowered overall body mass index (BMI) and also lowered the risk of cardiovascular disease. The study also showed that weight loss while on the whole grain rich diet was mostly in the abdominal area. Better health and a more shapely figure. What a lovely combination!

you can pronounce every ingredient

Another point of differentiation, is that our customers can pronounce every ingredient in our baked goods. This may not sound impressive at first glance, but here is the list of ingredients in a well-known brand's store-bought muffins.
