Adding fresh smoothies to your routine

Smoothies can be a fast, easy and delicious way to get many nutrients into your diet!

Making fresh smoothies and juices a part of your routine can be intimidating at first, so many recipes to choose from, how much produce do I buy and how much time will this add to my day? All valid questions!   Here are a couple tips which I found make it simple to have fresh quality ingredients on hand to whip something up.

Adding fresh smoothies to your routine

While your fridge doesn't need to look like ours (above), the variety of fruits and veg that can make tasty smoothies is endless!

Start by picking a base for your smoothie that you can keep in stock - Great options are almond milk, coconut milk or just pure water + banana.

Once you have a good base pick up some of your favourite fresh fruit and freeze it! Freezing my bananas (peel first) and berries make it super fast and easy to throw together a morning breakfast smoothie and help you avoid wasting produce.

From there have fun picking out a great fresh fruit or green while grocery shopping and switch it up weekly.

Smoothies and juices are also a great way to get your greens in, especially first thing in the morning and for kids.  Here is one of our great green smoothie recipes, enjoy!

Green Smoothies

Tropical Green

1 cup water

1 cup spinach

1 large kale leaf

1 frozen banana

1/4-1/2 cup fruit of choice (mango, orange, pineapple)


Once you've gotten into the groove of smoothie making, try upping the greens to fruit ratio.  Adding in protein (hemp, brown rice etc.) or algae like spirulina are just some of the fun and healthy additives to play around with!
