A commonly asked question is -
Does OHIP cover home care services for Seniors?
In Ontario, publicly funded home care falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care. They provide stewardship of the health system and local health services are planned and funded by Home and Community Care Support Services Waterloo Wellington (formerly Waterloo Wellington LHIN)
Home and Community Care Support Services provide access to government-funded home and community services and to long-term care homes. A good first step is to contact your HCCSS. For those in the Waterloo Wellington region go to the HCCSS or call 310-2222 and their care coordinators will determine eligibility for you or your family member.
OHIP covered services by Home and Community Care Support Services Waterloo Wellington (formerly Waterloo Wellington LHIN):
- PSW Support – medication reminders, shower assistance (one to two times a week), morning and/or evening care, respite care (Care Coordinator determines if you qualify)
- Nursing Services – wound care, palliative care
- Occupational Therapy – home safety inspections (e.g., Bathroom)
- Speech Language Pathologist
More and more, families will retain private service for loved ones to supplement publicly funded service, as a preference to the public system or when they do not quality for government funded care. Additional private home care provision can improve the quality of life at home for the care recipient and their family members.
Promyse Home Care Medication Management - Our healthcare team will perform regular medication reviews, remove expired or out-of-date medications for safe disposal, and provide methods to ensure all medications are taken at the right dose and at the right time, every time. If needed, a registered nurse will be available to administer medications.
The Promyse team of nurses are carefully screened for their experience as well as their skills working within the community. All of our nurses are registered with the CNO (College of Nurses, Ontario), have up-to-date skills and are fully bonded and insured.
For seniors who struggle with mobility, are recovering from surgery, or have varying disabilities, personal care activities such as bathing, dressing and grooming, may become too difficult without assistance. Our goal is to support and assist and you as much as needed, while encouraging as much independent care as possible. Should your needs change over time, our Nurse Manager will work with you and your caregiver to adapt the plan of care to ensure the best possible outcomes.
24 Hour Care
Promyse Home Care caregivers are available for your loved one round-the-clock, whether it be care during the day, or overnight care.
