Making the Most of a Bad Situation

These are stories about real people that are making the most of a bad situation. They are moving and staying connected through health and fitness.

COVID 19 has taken a huge toll on our mental health.

This new reality has caused mass chaos in so many people’s lives all over the world.

We were absolutely gutted when we were ordered to close.

Not just because we would be taking a HUGE financial loss and the uncertainty of our future, but because of the people we work with every day.  Because of the connections, the support and the life changing work we do with people on a daily basis.

Gone

Or at least that’s what I thought .....

We closed on March 15th and we were up and running with Virtual Classes March 16th.

It’s been a lot to get used to, but I have to say, what has transpired throughout the last month and a bit has been truly incredible.

Collection of COVID Workout Stories

Throughout the next few weeks I want to share a COLLECTION OF COVID WORKOUT STORIES.

These are stories about real people that are making the most of a bad situation. They are moving and staying connected through health and fitness.

People that live in our community and people that don’t.

We Love and Thank You all for the support and know that we will come out of this, united.

STRONGER TOGETHER

Story 1: Finding a New Normal

My covid workout story:

One of the worst parts of social isolation for me was losing my gym! I'm a frequent flyer so to speak! I love building my strength and confidence and I love the social aspect of working out with my peeps! When it closed down, I was afraid about losing all of my gains. As soon as LA went virtual I was on it like white on rice! At first it was hard to be motivated and I still have off days, just like at the gym, but it’s become my new norm. I love to put it on the grid view and plan with my peeps to sign in at the same time so we’re on the same screen. That feeling of community has returned to my workouts and LA, Carly and most recently Rochelle have been fabulous! It must be hard talking to a screen of faces that don’t talk back and continue to motivate us! A million thanks you for figuring this all out in crazy times!!! Love and miss all of you!

Here is a pick after a particularly exhausting class!

Its not at all flattering or sexy, just real life!

Story 2: ONYX Fitness Has Been My One Constant

I have known Lori-Ann for years and always thought I’d check out her gym one day, I had heard lots of great things about it. Finally, 4 years ago I joined her Mom and Baby fitness classes and was instantly hooked. It was such a great way to get out of the house, keep fit and make great friends.

Fast forward a few years and after some life changes, I found the gym even more important to me. It was my happy place, the place I went for me. The place that played such a huge impact on not only my physical well being but my mental health.

I loved it so much I had to share it. My 22 year old daughter lost her Grandmother and was in such terrible grief, she really needed something to boost her and help her through such heartache. She had tried a few classes with me but now found this was really what she needed.

Then March 2020 came and brought with it something none of us ever could have imagined. Schools closed, trips were cancelled, businesses closed, all non essential workers asked to stay home, people were getting sick, dying, some of the reports were really scary. We were asked to stay home if we could and what seemed like overnight our lives were changed.

Onyx fitness has been my one constant that has remained. A day after gyms were closed down, Lori-Ann was back up in the form of zoom online classes, and offers of equipment for those who couldn’t get any.

If I thought it helped my mental health before I can’t even begin to describe what it has done for me now. Lori-Ann is so dedicated and so in touch with her O-family, because that is what it is to her, that she is like a shining light in these scary times. Her endless positivity and her beaming smile are such a boost even when she’s yelling at you to do your burpees because she can see you’re not.

If you have been having a hard time with this all as many of us have, or are missing a little human connection then definitely give a class a try. If you’ve always wanted to check Onyx out there is no better time.
