How CBD oil can help alleviate pain and inflammation

There are a lot of questions regarding the benefits of using CBD products to reduce pain. Just like any treatment, it is subjective to every individual. That being said, it has been found that CBD oil can help alleviate pain by reducing inflammation. The possibilities seem endless as it can be used almost anywhere in or on the body: joints (knees, elbows, wrists), muscles, bladder, for anxiety or even migraines. In addition, there are several inflammatory diseases that CBD oil can help alleviate.

Some examples are:

  • Fibromyalgia
  • Interstitial Cystitis
  • Irritable Bowel
  • Arthritis
  • Insomnia
  • Nicotine/Opioid Withdrawal

What is CBD oil?

Simply stated, it is an oil derived from the hemp plant. Most CBD products have miniscule amounts of THC in them, some do have more than others, as it matters which plant it comes from and how it is processed. Typically it is taken orally, under the tongue but it can also be found as a gummy, cream, liquid roll on, patch, or softgel.

When looking for CBD products it is important to consider its source, where it comes from. Finding a CBD product that can cross state lines is a good start; these are regulated and have less than 0.3% THC level. Some states only accept a maximum of 0.2% THC and others will go as high as 0.4%, it just depends on the state.

As a marker, marijuana contains anywhere from 15% to 40% THC, whereas hemp contains only 0.3%. You don’t want a high THC level because it can then have negative psychoactive side effects and will no longer be treating your ailment, possibly even making them worse.

Another important factor when looking for CBD products is to ensure that it is as pure as possible.

How does a patient use CBD oil for pain?

CBD products do not require a prescription and should be taken as directed by the manufacturer. It is important to inform your Doctor that you are using CBD oil, just as you would another other supplement(s) you are taking. Typically with oils it’s taken once a day under the tongue. Gummies are usually taken once a day, as for creams and roll-ons they can usually be applied 2-3 times a day per body area.

Much like any other medical treatment, every patient responds differently; the same goes for CBD oil. It is a simple solution to try that could alleviate some or all of your discomfort. CBD oil works in different ways: your body has CBD receptors it binds to and then activates those receptors. So even if it does not drop your pain level, it could improve your immune system, as it works in a lot of ways.

What side effects are there to using CBD oil?

What’s nice with CBD products is that there are generally very minimal side effects. Again, speaking with your physician is important because it could interact poorly with medications that you’re already taking. It’s possible that CBD oil could cause tiredness, diarrhea, nausea, appetite/weight changes, and dry mouth. But again, overall it is pretty safe.
