Equipment Used At Mindful Life Pilates
The Pilates Trapeze Table
The first prototype called the “Cadillac” invented by Joseph Pilates to re-habilitate people with injuries is now used by dancers, gymnasts, golfers, and many high performance athletes for cross-training programs to enhance performance. You can isolate almost every muscle group on this apparatus and it is an excellent tool for breaking down movement patterns to restore and correct proper biomechanics. For example, using the leg springs is one of the best ways to get runners to fully activate their hamstrings.
The Pilates Trapeze Table is an extremely versatile piece of equipment and like all other pieces of Pilates apparatus it can be used to progress and regress movement in order to address the functional needs of the of the advanced as well as the beginner Pilates enthusiast.
The innovative exercises developed by Joseph Pilates focus on strengthening the muscles that help you to maintain a well-balanced and revitalized body. Joseph Pilates designed and patented specific pieces of apparatus including the Reformer to assist his students through ranges of motion and get them strong enough so they could do the Pilates Mat work properly.
The Pilates Reformer is a commonly used tool with a sliding platform attached with springs at one end and it can be moved by pulling on ropes or pushing off from a stationary foot bar. These springs provide variable or measured resistance — from light to heavy — to the muscles while exercising. The springs offer more resistance at the strongest point of muscle contraction and less resistance at the starting and finishing point. This type of resistance reduces stress on the tendons and ligaments in the body.
There are numerous benefits of performing various exercises on this integral piece of apparatus not only to facilitate workouts without unwanted stress on the joints, it also allows you to do specific exercises for injury rehabilitation. The exercises on the Pilates Reformer can be done by anyone. Athletes use the Reformer to enhance their performance in different sporting activities. It can also be used by women in their initial stage of pregnancy under the guidance of a trained professional. All exercise performed on the Pilates Reformer can help to correct muscular-skeletal imbalances.
The EXO Chair
The EXO Chair is a spring loaded piece of equipment that delivers a challenging full-body workout that's great for strength training, and benefits athletes like skiers and runners. It includes proper resistance to accommodate users at all ability levels while offering a low-impact workout, making it ideal for those with sensitive joints. EXO Chair exercises target the arms, legs, and deep core muscles. Flexibility and strength exercises will offer an enjoyable and intense challenge.
TRX Suspension Training
TRX Training was designed based on leading-edge research and best practices from the military and professional sports. Whether you’re just beginning your journey into fitness or training at an athletic level, TRX Training gives you a sustainable, fun, and effective approach to help you achieve your personal fitness goals. TRX Training is a cross between training and play combined with strength and flexibility. You will achieve maximum results and become stronger in all other activities that you do.
The Pilates Arc is designed to focus on the deep abdominals, back, and shoulder muscles. By stretching and working these muscles out with the specific Pilates exercises for the Arc, ‘humpback’ is shown to disappear and spine correction occurs. Additionally, the chest muscles are also worked out, which improves breathing for a better night of sleep and improved energy throughout the day.
The Arc can improve conditions such as scoliosis, osteoporosis, arthritis and many others. With strong core muscles, the body is more stable and can move with ease and better posture.
As we age, our spine loses its natural curvature whether it’s from a lack of physical activity, or poor posture habits. Improper spine alignment can lead to many concerns including back pain & discomfort, shallow breathing, and other health issues. The good news is that posture correction can be attained through appropriate measures using the Pilates Arc or Spine Corrector. Pilates Arcs are complementary to mat workouts and are useful in providing relief from tension or injury.
The Pilates Ring
Performing the Pilates Mat work utilizes your own body weight to emphasize kin-esthetic awareness, the ability to focus on the sensation of muscular contraction and movement to improve overall body control. This Method of exercise may be unfamiliar at first but with practice anyone can master this mind-body system. Joseph Pilates and his wife Clara developed a series of Pilates mat work exercises that were introduced in his book “Return to Life Through Contrology” in 1945.
In the Pilates technique, movement begins from the abdomen. The central muscles of the abdomen and back we now call the core, he referred to as the Pilates Powerhouse.
Holding muscular contractions — beginning with the abdomen — is a key to the technique. Learning to control the muscles Pilates called “the powerhouse” creates a foundation for strengthening the entire body. Performing these exercises improves flexibility and joint mobility.
