Is it time to get Back 2 Balance?
It happens to everyone....life, so what do you do when s#!t hits the fan and your routine gets thrown out the window?
So summer is officially over, according to the calendar in North America and if your like me had a little too much "vacation" time you may be paying the price, not only how you look, but more importantly how you feel. Are you a little sluggish getting out of bed in the morning? Do you nosh on unhealthy snacks through the day? Do you have the 3pm slump, skip your workouts and veg on the couch in front of "Game of Thrones" or "Walking Dead"?
Then it may be time to get "Back 2 Balance!"
What do I mean by this?
I mean that it is time to start educating yourself, empowering yourself and be an inspiration for yourself and those around you. Are you a mom, a wife, a sister, a friend? Then what you do is being watched by someone, and probably more closely than you think. It is time to start taking your health and wellness back into your own hands.
Health in your hands
We've all been there!
Constantly starting that new "diet" on Monday or looking for the next quick fixes and instant gratification solutions? You are probably aware then, even though you may not want to admit it, that those programs only work in the short term, but they don't have lasting power, or else you wouldn't have needed more than ONE, right?!?
We buy into the media telling us we need to workout more, eat less, restrict our intake and deprive ourselves...but that is not the case!
Where do I start?
Great question! The answer is to become your own health coach and start educating yourself, like I did. I have been where you are, I have tried all the programs, some more successful than others, but I always ended up having to start again after life got away from me and the routine got wrecked!
That's what life does....it happens! It's not going to stop just because you think you have found your "nirvana" or the perfect "blissful" peace and routine...HELL NO!! That's when life will probably throw something wicked at you, big or small and say "Deal with it!"
That's when most of us throw in the towel and let the stress of life take over and it gives the excuse to STOP trying. Life is to short to be constantly dieting, depriving, restricting and feeling guilty about who we are and what we do or don't do. None of us are perfect and we all have weak moments, because we are human.
So here are a few things that I began to do to educate myself and become more aware of how to take care of me:
- Started watching documentaries, like "Hungry for Change" and "I Am".
- Started writing out my priorities and figuring out what I needed to focus on more.
- Wrote out my goals in health and in life, then created a plan on how to make the changes, so I could achieve my goals.
- Went back to school, this was one of my goals.
- Most importantly, I started to learn how to change my way of thinking, from negative to positive, from deprivation to moderation and from guilt to pleasure.
Through these 5 things along with many others I began to gain back the control I so desperately wanted in my life. I saw my health and wellness in a different light and I was happy to have people along the way to guide me and coach me into finding what worked for me. Most importantly, I now have the confidence to continue on this journey of health and wellness, having a great community to support me and knowing that when I get lost in the trenches of life, which will most certainly happen, I can always dig myself out.
