What is Neuro Linguistic Programming?
Neuro Linguistic Programming is a an approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy used as an alternative method of healing.
Neuro Linguisting Programming, or NLP, was developed in the 1970’s by Richard Bandler and John Grinder as an alternative therapy. Bandler and Grinder proposed that there is a connection between neurological processes, language, and behavioural patterns that are learned through experience - and that with the right techniques, these can be changed to achieve specific goals in life: from settling your nerves before a big pitch to overcoming PTSD.
NLP uses your unconscious mind to change the way you feel and think, and usually involves coaching to express the root of issues to help you tackle them directly from the source.
NLP differs from typical psychotherapy in that it provides a method of expression without reliving the initial trauma.
“The main problem is that the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) has become an industry consisting of long term interventions and the use of prescription drugs. For it to remain an industry, PTSD must be projected as being an illness. But this assumption is incorrect - PTSD is an injury - not an illness. And it is an injury that can be healed, drug free.” - Allen Kanerva, Inspired Outcomes
