Tinnitus: Ringing in the Ears
Tinnitus is experience of hearing sound when there is no sound present in environment. It is usually generated from damage to hearing system.
Tinnitus is an annoying and rather dreadful condition where a person hears a sound that is not generated from their environment-A Phantom Sound. Periodically, tinnitus can be a sign of a medical condition that may require further investigation, but most commonly it is a sign of hearing loss. Hearing loss and tinnitus are closely related. It is routinely stated that approximately 90% of tinnitus patients have a hearing loss and 70-80% of hearing loss patients have tinnitus. The impact of the tinnitus on quality of life can range from a mild nuisance to near complete debilitation. Tinnitus patients struggle to gain control over their tinnitus, miss silence and often have significantly disrupted sleep and other autonomic body functions. . At present there is no cure for tinnitus, but there are many therapies that significantly improve quality of life. Tinnitus sufferers must remember no cure does not mean no help. The treatment goal for tinnitus sufferers is to gain control. Tinnitus patients can gain control of their tinnitus with properly fit hearing aids if needed, sound therapy and counselling. Remember no cure, does not mean no help!
