Following someone else's footsteps

Following someone else's footsteps

Have you ever felt like a fraud because you feel like you are following in someone else's footsteps? It's actually a great thing!

Do you ever feel like a fraud because you are following in someone else's footsteps?

I know I have.

I was recently in Puerto Escondido, Mexico for my Angels of Intuition retreat, and on my last day there, I decided to walk on the beach back to my hotel. As I was walking, I was struggling a bit because the sand was pretty soft.

Then, I started walking in someone else's footsteps. Someone before me had already blazed the trail. I consciously stepped in the footsteps that were already laid out on the beautiful beach.

And this is what i realized . . .

We can never truly walk in someone else's footsteps.

What a beautiful realization!

Even when you consciously choose to walk in someone else's footsteps, you will always be doing it your way. Perhaps the person before you blazed the trail, perhaps the person before you lit the fire that is now guiding your path, perhaps the person before you made it possible for you to walk in her footsteps.

but, you will never truly walk in someone else's footsteps . . .

Because those steps you take are yours, the way you take those steps are yours, and the imprint you leave because is yours.

So, instead of judging yourself for not being creative enough or smart enough to make a path where none existed before, say thank you to all those footsteps that came before you. Say THANK YOU to all the men and women who blazed those trails and lit those fires so that you could now walk in your own footsteps.
