Finding Time for you!

How often have you found yourself thinking or saying the following?

"I wish I had more time for myself."
"I'm so busy! I don't have a moment to breathe."
"I need more hours in the day."
"I don't have time for that!."

I’m sure this is regular dialogue in your head! You are not alone! Finding and making time for you is just as important as making those cookies for your kids' bake sale or running that errand for your boss. For some reason women fall victim to putting everyone else first. When what should be happening is putting yourself first in order to take care of those around you better. There are always too few hours in a day…. What it comes down to is how you choose to use those hours. Making time for what you like/need or want to do is not a bad thing. Women tend to believe that if they go for a walk or go to the gym or go to the spa they are being selfish. This is wrong thinking! We need these things in our lives to not only feel good but to make sure we are in top form to perform our regular duties as well. How are you going to run after the kids if your energy is so low that walking up the stairs is hard? How are you going to make that presentation to your boss when you feel sluggish, hate your hair and feel old in your outfit? When you take care of yourself you automatically lift your spirits and everyone around you will feel that radiating off of you.

Finding Time for you!

Below are some ways to take that time for you and maybe fit in some exercise while you are at it!

  1. Listen to your favourite music on your way to work.
  2. Wake up 5-10 minutes early and enjoy your coffee/tea alone reading a book /magazine or just sit and enjoy the quietness.
  3. Park farther away from your destination and get a little walk in.
  4. Take your kids to the park and while they are playing make a mini workout up with pullups on the monkey bars and lunges around the play structure. Be inventive….it can be fun!
  5. Put the TV on for a short show before bedtime and just chill with nothing else on your mind.
  6. Hire a babysitter to watch your kids while you get your hair done or go shopping (if funds are tight, ask a friend to swap kids! You take her kids while she goes out and she will take yours while you go out! It’s a win win!)
  7. Take an afternoon off, unpaid from work! It will feel Fabulous!!
  8. Before going to bed, relax in a warm bath to relax your body and mind before hitting the pillow.
  9. Join a gym and meet women who were once like you but now find time and make it a priority (or at least drop in for a tour to get your feet wet).
  10. Take 5-10 minutes a day to do something you enjoy and not feel guilty about! You deserve it!
