Medication Safety in Home Daycares
Medications are to be treated with the utmost care for all involved
It is heartbreaking when children get sick. We all want to make them feel better; however, in childcare there are lots of adults involved within a little ones life. We all need to be aware of medications and the safety of all childcare.
Think about this for a moment... what if one guardian drops off and she gave meds, you have the child all day and gave meds, and then the other guardian picks up? No one wants to give a child to much medication which can make them sicker.
MEDICATION: Both non-prescription and prescription medications, ointments, and creams can be given to a child, if needed in most daycare setting.
Specifically, in my daycare, parents are required to fill out the proper forms and to supply all medications in their original containers.
These must be labeled with the child's name and prescription information clearly legible on the container. I will only give medication under the 5 Right Policy.
Feel free to use this form for medications.
Five Right Policy:
- Right Medication
- Right Name
- Right Time
- Right Amount or Route
- Right Label
