The Longest Running Businesses in Town
Journeys into River Edge
A recent article (Spring 2022) in The Town News about 10 North Jersey businesses that have been around a long time (i.e. Hillmann Lighting in Ridgewood (1910), Conrad’s in Westwood (1928) the Orange Lantern in Paramus (1933), Bischoff’s in Teaneck (1934) and Westwood Cycle (1946)), got us to thinking about the longest running businesses in River Edge.
Here’s what comes to my mind:
Palmer Brothers (1929)
Ideal Service (1945)
Nigito Realty (1946)
Classic Wines & Liquors (Kinderkamack Liquors) (1948)
Olympia Foods (“Almost a hundred years”- have a call in for a more precise date – will report back when I get it)
River Edge Diner (1940’s – originally as Mike’s Diner)
Kinderkamack Cleaners (1950’s)
Critchely’s Candies (1957)
Of course, McDonald’s has been in town since the mid 1960’s and it is now almost 30 years since CVS showed up at its first location near the Diner, but I put them in a different category as they are national brands.
What do you think of this list – any additions ?
