The New Year prompts us to look at the last year in reflection of things we accomplished and that which we want to still accomplish. This is where resolutions come into play.

Personally, I don't make resolutions anymore, as they seem to get forgotten a few months into the year. What I do instead is try to form good habits and routines that are doable, sustainable, and things which make me feel good about even the smallest moments that show up.

Gratitude is one of the best ways we can feel good about ourselves and the world around us even when life hands us lemons. We all know the saying, "When life hands you lemons make lemonade."

Meaning of Gratitude

Gratitude means thanks and appreciation. ... Gratitude, which rhymes with "attitude," comes from the Latin word gratus, which means "thankful, pleasing." When you feel gratitude, you're pleased by what someone did for you and also pleased by the results. Unlike indebtedness, you're not anxious about having to pay it back.

I published a Gratitude Journal to assist my own gratitude journey that you can write inside for 21 days and more. It also has some extra ideas for practicing gratitude like:

  1. Three things a day you are grateful for
  2. A positive action for the dayA positive experience over the past 24 hours
  3. A positive experience over the past 24 hours AND (this is the more part)
  4. a check for completing 10 minutes of exercise and 10 minutes of meditation, both very important in the world of gratitude to keep you feeling good.

I Challenge YOU

I would like to challenge you to a 21 Day Gratitude Challenge & More.

What a great way to begin the New Year. Wouldn't it be great to start a challenge with your team members, or co-workers. Have a fun reward at the end of the 21 days for the people who were able to stay on course and complete everyday. Have a conversation and share each day around the lunch table. Share your gratitude list.

What about young children? Getting them into the habit of gratitude early and teaching appreciation together as a family, perhaps time around the dinner or breakfast table writing in your journals together! Habits begin to form in 21 days, so what I have for YOU is my journal written for me to complete my own challenge. It makes the process so easy for you. You simply open to Day 1 and start a wonderful way to live a happy life filled with gratitude and goodness.

Science indicates that being grateful and writing it down actually releases endorphins in our brain that create feelings of calm and peace!
