The Ab System provides you with -

  • The Prenatal Core Confidence Exercise Program to help you PREPARE your core and body for birth
  • The Ab Tank and patented Ab Wrap to help your pelvis and abdomen RECOVER in the early weeks postpartum
  • The Restorative Core Confidence Exercise Program to help rebuild and RESTORE your core from the inside out.

Used in many cultures around the globe, postpartum belly wrapping or belly binding as it is often referred to, provides temporary support to the abdominal wall and pelvis while they heal. Pregnancy and birthplace significant stretch and pressure on the tissues, muscles and nerves in the abdominal wall and pelvic floor. The ability of the muscles to contribute to core control is temporarily hindered after birth and the wrap helps contribute to control so the muscles can be retrained.

Wrapping alone is not recommended. The muscles and the inner core system need to be retrained so they can return to being able to contribute to control. Wearing the wrap while following the core confidence exercise program will help support a return to optimal function.

Diastasis Recti

Diastasis Recti is a common condition that occurs in most women during pregnancy. The rectus muscles move away from the midline due to thinning and stretching of the linea alba. Healing the abdominal wall and diastasis relies on optimizing the pelvic floor muscles with appropriate exercise (the core confidence program), supporting the pelvis in the early weeks postpartum (the Ab tank and wrap) and paying attention to posture.

The Core Confidence Network

The Ab Tank and Wrap are designed to shrink with you, so you don't need to buy multiple sizes. It is also designed to accommodate any torso size (tall or short) and also facilitates movement because of the flexible, breathable elastic. The base layer tank sits under the bust to allow for unobstructed breast or chest feeding. Like babies feel supported and safe when they are swaddled, the Ab Tank and Wrap provide that gentle hug and sense of safety and support during the healing stage of postpartum recovery.

Common Questions

When should I start wearing my Ab Tank and Ab Wrap?

As soon as possible after your baby is born is ideal.

I am past the 8-week postpartum period – will the Ab Tank and Ab Wrap still help me?

While the Ab Tank and Wrap are ideally designed for use in the first 8 weeks postpartum it may be helpful for women with really weak connective tissue or a large separation. Wearing a wrap beyond the 8 weeks is recommended for women who have been advised by their women's health physiotherapist that their connective tissue is very weak or that they have a non-functional diastasis.

It is also appropriate for women who are awaiting surgery to fix their diastasis. The condition of the connective tissue and the need for surgery should be determined by a women's health physiotherapist rather than self-evaluation. If you are beyond 8 weeks postpartum, we recommend seeing one of our trainers and pelvic floor physiotherapists to help determine if the Ab System is right for you.
