Up Close & Personal with Local Business
Here is an up close & personal feature on Grand River Hearing & Tinnitus Centre's owner, Calvin Staples.
Here is a recent interview with Calvin Staples, owner of Grand River Hearing & Tinnitus Centre:
Q. Calvin are you originally from the Kitchener-Waterloo area?
A. I was raised on a farm outside of Arthur, ON.
Q. Where did you go for your post-secondary education?
A. I attended Missouri State University on an athletic scholarship.
Q. Wow, so what got you interested in audiology?
A. Funny story. I received a letter from the school near the end of my second year of university that stated I would be athletically ineligible if I did not declare a major. That evening I went to a basketball game, sat beside a professor in the Communication Sciences and Disorders department and the next thing I knew I had a Masters of Science with an emphasis in Audiology.
Q. How do you juggle work/life balance?
A. Family first always! At the end of the day, family is what matters. I have my career goals, I have my own personal goals, but never in exchange of being a good father or husband. Sitting down for family dinners, playing or coaching my child's activities and staying connected with my wife are my top priorities.
Q. What do you like to do in your spare time.
A. Coach my son's hockey team, run, and watch sports (I am a big Montreal Canadiens and New York Yankee fan). You can often catch me in my backyard playing a game of tag or hide 'n go seek with my kids.
Q. Do you want to share some career goals with respect to Grand River Hearing?
A. The plan for Grand River Hearing & Tinnitus is the same as it was 5+ years ago--Create a space where people feel welcome, they feel valued and can trust our expertise. Hearing healthcare has changed drastically in the past 5-10 years, but we believe the service and time patients desire has not changed. We want our patients to feel that we are on their time, they are not on our time. In terms of where we want to be; "we strive for Grand River Hearing & Tinnitus Centre to be synonymous with hearing healthcare excellence in Waterloo Region".
I really am committed to providing the best care and the best experience. Hearing rehab is hard some times, but if given the time and the patient is invested we can really change their lives.
As head of the Healthy Waterloo Region, I need to ensure that the businesses participating in our magazine are of the highest integrity. In fact, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any of the businesses you find in this media platform. I can provide a personal testimonial with Grand River Hearing & Tinnitus Centre. Both of my elderly parents have had exceptional care and customer service. Getting use to wearing hearing aids was challenging for them but the level of care from Calvin and his staff made the process so much easier. Their patience, understanding and caring were truly something special.
