Ingredients:

For the Royal Icing:
  • ½ tablespoon meringue powder
  • 1 ½ tablespoons water
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • Pink and red gel-based food coloring
For the Base Icing:
  • 1/3 cup candy melts + ½ tbsp. vegetable shortening pink
  • 1/3 cup candy melts + ½ tbsp. vegetable shortening red
For the Donut:
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 piece egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup flour
  • 6 tablespoons milk

Instructions:

For the Donut:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Prepare a donut pan by spraying cooking spray.
  • Combine the salt, baking powder, baking flour, and sugar in a large bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the eggs, vanilla, oil, and milk until smooth. Slowly stir in the dry ingredients and mix well.
  • Get a piping bag and transfer the batter. If a piping bag is not available, you can use a Ziploc bag and cut one corner.
  • Pipe the batter into the pan, making sure each hole is 2/3 full.
  • Bake for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool before transferring to a wire rack.
For the Base Icing:
  • Place the candy melts in two separate bowls along with the vegetable shortening. Let them melt in the microwave for at least minutes. For best results, stir every 30 seconds.
  • Transfer the melted chocolates in a shallow dish that fits the donuts. Dip each donut into the chocolate for a few seconds.
  • Place on a cooling rack to cool.
For the Royal Icing:
  • In another mixing bowl, combine the meringue powder, powdered sugar, water, and food coloring. Use an electric mixer to achieve a matte appearance.
  • Divide the icing into two and place them in separate bowls. Add a few drops of the pink and red food coloring.
  • Decorate your donuts as desired.
  • Arrange in fancy boxes and surprise your Valentine with these donuts.
