Owning a Pet: Health Benefits for Children

Owning a pet can help protect your child from developing pet allergies.

Pets are a wonderful addition to the family with many health benefits. One surprising benefit is that children may have less likely chance of developing allergies to animals when there is a pet in the house. As study done by pediatrician James E. Gern from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has discovered that children who are raised in a household with a pet are less likey to develop pet related allergies by as much as 33 percent. Children who are exposed to pets early tend to develop stronger immune systems overall. This is great news for families; Fido can actually help keep you child healthy. Check out Dr. Gern’s research. They are published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
