Neurofeedback Training for Optimal Brain Health and Performance

Neurofeedback Training for Optimal Brain Health and Performance

Neurofeedback can be used as an effective approach in the management of many mental health conditions. It can also improve performance in elite sport.

Brain Prodigy Inc. was founded by Dr. Daina Debly, MD, MHSc., FRCPC, to offer the community another approach to achieving optimal brain performance.

Dr. Debly is a licensed Psychiatrist in private practice in Burlington, ON. She graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Linguistics preparing her for graduate studies in Health Sciences (Speech-Language Pathology) at the University of Toronto. After working as a Speech-Language Pathologist for several years in hospital settings, she began her study of medicine at McMaster University. Her fascination with the relationship of human behaviour and biology led to her career in Psychiatry.

No matter how old we are, learning, mastering, and retaining newly acquired information and skills is key to improving our functioning and quality of life.

For some people, medications and psychotherapy help to a certain degree but there continues to be a sense that ‘something is missing’.

Neurofeedback is often the game changer that creates the opportunity for more meaningful processing of psychotherapy work. In some cases, it can also lead to decreased doses (or discontinuation) of certain medications. It can even be the vehicle that helps a person achieve a sense of wholeness as opposed to feeling fragmented or scattered.

Neurofeedback supports a person’s confidence to successfully manage daily challenges no matter the stage of life. Adults, as well as children, have used neurofeedback to address the negative effects arising from ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Alzheimer’s, Autism, Insomnia, and other difficulties.

What can I Expect from a Neurofeedback Session?

The sessions are enjoyable and often relaxing. Training with a neurofeedback system at Brain Prodigy Inc., you will experience the session sitting in a comfortable chair. Once the setup is complete, you will be given a set of headphones, or you may choose to bring in your own ear buds. Through the headphones you will hear music or the soundtrack to a movie (preferred by most children). Intermittently there will be breaks in the music/soundtrack – this is the feedback from the system that will invite the brain to re-stabilize. Many people fall asleep during sessions and this is just fine. Others like to read a book or use a smartphone to browse the web or read to pass the time. These activities do not interfere with having a successful session.
