Born on April 28, 1947, in Puttur, Karnataka, India, Dr. Dinker Belle Rai was a child prodigy. Number one in class and number in the field, he excelled in everything he did. From childhood until becoming a vascular surgeon, he took several milestones in which he succeeded in many aspects of life. Dr. Rai's life was marked by hard labor and dedication; from his days as a sportsman through his painting of President John F. Kennedy, he pushed his way to the top. He comes from a family of accomplished academics. His father was a well-known criminal lawyer, but Dr. Rai chose surgery instead, deviating from his father's path and forging his own path in a completely different domain.

Dr. Dinker spent most of his time researching and studying, and as a result, he is accredited with numerous achievements, the most noteworthy of which being the discovery of the motion of venous valves in humans and the first fresh finding of the operation of the atrial chambers of the human heart in centuries. Dr. Rai based his work on Sir Willam Harvey's 400 years old research, which is on the mechanical functions of the ventricles of the heart. As per Dr. Rai, this research will help us better understand and treat heart disease and shed new insight on the development of prosthetic hearts.

He also invented the first procedure for retrograde catheterization of venous tree. This innovation was so effective that it was copyrighted, and a firm called "The Ideas For Medicine, Inc." developed and distributed a line of catheters known as "Rai catheters," which are still in use today. Dr. Dinker's study on histology specimens of people with saphenofemoral incompetence, among other things, led to a paradigm shift in varicose vein treatment. Dr. Rai's work has aided many people and continues to offer hope to others suffering from life-threatening illnesses.

His knowledge and expertise in the vascular system are unrivaled. Many innovative surgical techniques that he discovered and devised have been a huge aid in the field of surgery. Dr. Dinker outlined the structure of a vascular valve transplant surgical method. He's also done the first-ever vein transplantation below the knee and innovative procedures for descending phlebography to diagnose venous illness. Many look up to Dr. Rai as an inspiration and a source of hope. He has inspired contemporaries and students to pursue careers in medicine, particularly the vascular system, through his accomplishments and his love for his work.

Dr. Dinker's medical journey began like every student pursuing medicine when he received his M.B.B.S. with a distinction in Pathology from Bangalore Medical College. After that, he was assigned to Victoria Hospital in Bangalore, India, as a rotating intern. However, he didn't settle for a job in the hospital; he worked hard to prove himself, which paved the way to where he is now. Years of effort, passion and a desire to succeed and aid humanity have given flight to Dr. Dinker's rise from just an M.B.B.S to Board Certified Indian American vascular surgeon.

Today, Dr. Rai is the Chairman of the Department of Surgery and the Chief of the Vascular Surgery/Vascular Laboratory at the Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He is also a visiting Clinical Professor at the State University of New York's Health and Science Center in Brooklyn, as well as a visiting professor at Rajiv Gandhi University in Bangalore, India. Dr. Rai's research is primarily focused on phlebography, particularly chronic venous insufficiency disease and vein valve transplantation, as well as the function of the heart's atrial chambers. In addition to the United States, he has given workshops, live demonstrations, and lectures in India, Germany, Portugal, Hungary, Greece, Austria, and Italy. His research has appeared in prestigious journals such as the Journal of Vascular Surgery, International Surgery, International Journal of Angiology, Contemporary Surgery, and others. In the most recent version of the Textbook of Angiology, he provided two new chapters. He is a member of the editorial boards of the International College of Angiology Journal and Tracks Journal, as well as the Phlebology Society of America's Board of Directors.
