What is a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT)?
Not sure how a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) can help you? Find out how here!
A Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) is about to become your best friend! RMT’s work with you to both help relieve pain and discomfort in your muscles and joints, and to help heal and repair musculoskeletal injuries.
RMT’s can identify and heal injuries, chronic conditions, and musculoskeletal stress - from back aches from sitting at your desk all day to sport and exercise related injuries. They work with each individual client and provide specific, customized treatment plans.
RMT’s also provide education to their patients on preventing and managing chronic conditions (so they need treatment less!).
You can feel confident working with an RMT - specific education and experience (and regulation) is required to be an RMT, meaning they have the scientific and anatomical knowledge to make recommendations for your physical health.
Aspiring RMT’s are required to attend a 2 or 3 year program that includes education on: anatomy, hydrotherapy, physiology, pathology, histology, massage treatment, massage theory, kinesiology, remedial exercises, business management, public health, nutrition, communication, and even ethics and professionalism!
Once they receive their education, they must successfully complete a certification examination - which includes both written and practical components - after which they are able to start helping their community with aches and pains, as well as healing and recovering from injuries.
The many qualifications and applications of RMT’s mean you should make them your first stop after a minor musculoskeletal injury - or if that shoulder pain flares up!
