Acceptance

Love gives us peace and strengths, and, ultimately, acceptance of what is.
Acceptance
A poem by Francine Houston

Acceptance
Francine Houston
I sit.
I sit for those who can’t: for whom the pain is too great.
For whom the loss is too painful or poignant.
I sit with the dying.
I sit with the friends and the family of those who over toward the twilight.
I sit with those who challenge the end:
The regrets
The less time
Lost relationships
The joys
The laughter and the tears.
I have heard stories, memories of time gone by and of times yet to come.
Photos, some faded, some fresh
What I know now, in ways I could never have imagined: Acceptance is a Gift.
Coming through all the shifts, through all the joys and the sorrows that all of the other journeys and our experiences are to get us to the place of love.
Love gives us peace and strengths, and, ultimately, acceptance of what is.
I have watched and listened, held space, held hands.
Cold compresses and warm
Wiping tears, hugging families.
Holding time suspended until all is at it is meant to be:
Acceptance of what and how it is to be
Acceptance in love of the time, the honour, and the change.
