10 questions that you need to ask yourself to create great brand messaging.

Great brand messaging breaks through and drives results.

In today’s fast-moving and cluttered media environment, people can choose to engage with, skip, thumb through or ignore your messaging (advertisements, PR, events, etc.).

Getting people to watch, read or listen to your message is challenging, you need to breakthrough, stand out and resonate with your audience.

To evaluate your messaging, you need to ask yourself.

  1. Does my message have a clear purpose? Is it concise, singular, and easy to understand; does it clearly articulate your unique brand value to your audience?
  2. Is it concise, singular, and easy to understand; does it clearly articulate your unique brand value to your audience?
  3. Does it have stopping power; does it stop people in their tracks and draw them in, is it original and engaging?
  4. Is the message benefit-driven over feature-driven?
  5. Does it resonate with my audience? Is it relevant; does it provide a solution and drive an emotional response?
  6. Is it consistent with all other messaging and the brand’s personality and tone?
  7. Does it have a strong brand recall? Consumers must be able to connect the brand to the message; it needs to be unique and strongly tied to the brand (if you switched out the brand for another and the message still works, it does not have the desired recall).
  8. Is it authentic and credible?
  9. Is it received in a positive light?
  10. Does it reach the consumer when they are open to the message?

If you answer yes to all these questions, your messaging will breakthrough and resonate with your audience and achieve its purpose.
