Pastor Steve Munsey delivers exciting insights on the value of God-given dreams and how they can help you view the future from God's perspective based on bible.
We need all the aid we can get as pastors. It's a difficult vocation. However, we are not alone. The Holy Spirit is with us!
I have to admit that there was some skepticism regarding the Holy Spirit in my early years as a new Christian, and even in my early years as a pastor. I imagined Jesus and the Father to be the same. But what about the Spirit? He's been dubbed "the wind"! He is also referred to as our Helper. I believe that having a strong sense of the Holy Spirit will help us thrive in pastoral ministry.
Throughout my years of ministry, I've grown in my love and regard for the Holy Spirit. He is my daily companion, teacher, and counselor. I may not always be as aware of His presence as I would like to be, but I want to make a habit of looking to Him regularly.
We can think of him as a person, Trinity's third person. Interestingly, others argue that the Holy Spirit is merely a metaphor of God's presence or power, rather than a genuine person. It would be out of step with biblical revelation and real-life experiences where he has revealed himself to regard him as a sign of authority. The degree to which we regard him as a person dictates how much we rely on him for assistance in our pastoral work.
We can look to him for help in making changes in our lives. Pentecost changed the disciples into joyful missionaries of the Gospel. Ministry comes with its fair share of challenges that can make a pastor's face droop. We need the Holy Spirit to bring about change and, in other words, to assist us in maintaining a genuine and long-lasting grin about life and mission.
We can rely on him to fill in the gaps. The early believers were regularly infused with the Holy Spirit, prompting them to undertake certain tasks. We, too, needed that filling if they did! I want to be so filled with the Spirit that if a mosquito bites me, it will fly away singing, "There Is Power in the Blood," as it has been said.
He may be our Teacher, Counselor, Guide, Equipper, and Helper. The Holy Spirit is far too important in pastoral ministry to be treated as a mere symbol of power or a footnote. He must be at the center of our universe and thoughts. With that in mind, I want to not only presume the Spirit's presence and activity, but also to anticipate, plan for, and rely on it.
We will keep the excellent deposit entrusted to our care with His guidance and persevere in ministry with zeal and commitment.
