What is your entrepreneurial business? What did you do prior to your current work?

Good afternoon. My name is Karen Egoff. I am very pleased to be able to share my adventures as an Entrepreneur.

Have you ever been rejected? Have you ever felt the pain of going to work and coming home because the doors at your place of business were locked. It was Christmas time, 21 yrs ago, I had no job! I was divorced, a mother of a 9 year old daughter, and like everyone else, I had bills to pay.

I had been in the printing business and knew it very well. "Why not start my own business?" It made a lot of sense. As a salesperson and estimator I had built a strong rapport with people in all walks of life. I also wasn't afraid of cold-calling potential clients. Within a few weeks I had started Sharp Image - my first kick at entrepreneurship. It didn't take long to develop a good, solid client base and a respectable income.

About 12 years ago, along with the advent of Online Printing and Promotional Products, I decided to move away from my current paradigm into the Wellness world. After a year or two educating myself through courses and research I began as Soulbalance.ca then added MySoulbalance.com to appeal more to our southern neighbours.

MySoulbalance is a wellness company comprising of Yoga, Reiki and Cranial Sacral Sessions, Reiki Teaching, Wellness Mindful Workshops and more. The end goal is to is to leave you feeling more relaxed, more confident, more grateful, and at peace in all aspects of YOU, including your body, mind and soul.

How did your previous work prepare you for your current adventure?

I was employed in the Printing Business. In this world I learned Customer Service, Time Management, Estimating, Accounts Payable and Receivables, not to mention a fairly in depth knowledge of the actual printing process. It taught me that no matter how hard you work, sometimes it doesn't work out, but if you persevere and keep knocking on doors, good things will happen. It's all in your attitude.

Was their one event that made you decide to make this change?

I suppose the one event that spurred me into changing from selling pens, golf balls and letterhead to Wellness was my daughter Cynthia. I always taught her to follow her dreams. I had done very well for the two of us as Sharp Image but I knew there was more and I wanted to lead by example - put my money where my mouth is so to speak. I needed to prove to myself that I could follow my heart and my bliss and still pay the bills. Besides - I was tired of the Promotional scene. As it was I was counting Pens instead of Sheep trying to get to sleep.

What do you love most about being an entrepreneur or part of a smaller business?

The most gratifying aspect of being an Entrepreneur boils down to who's the boss? Having a great idea or landing a huge contract is obviously more satisfying when you're the bottom line and not the person who benefits from your talents and time. Oh and booking a client once in awhile, while I'm still in my comfortable yoga clothes. Everything I do, I do with intention. I choose when to take time for a lunch with friends or colleagues, and time to see clients. It is very rewarding, to watch clients, become stronger in body, mind and soul, with workshops, yoga and or body therapy sessions.
