June is Men's Health Awareness Month and Father’s Day

The mental health of men and boys is often overlooked, even though it can take a significant toll on their lives.

The StatsCan Canadian Community Health Survey on Mental health and well-being found that 10% of men experienced symptoms of the surveyed mental health disorders and substance dependencies, compared to 11% of women.

Emotional problems can really affect a man’s ability to fully function in society and within his family. Untreated mental health conditions can lead to substance abuse, gambling, and other forms of addiction.

We talk a lot about the importance of self care for women, however, the same should be encouraged for the men in our lives.

June 22nd, we celebrate Fathers Day and a perfect time to support the Mental Health Awareness of men.

Waters Edge Salon is doing its part in support of our men and has a promotion available through the month of June.

The Best Part

And the best part is All proceeds will support the Joseph Brant Hospital’s Mental Health and Addiction Program.

It’s important to identify roadblocks men may face when they do want to seek help. Here are some of the most common misconceptions when it comes to men’s mental health:

Real men don’t ask for help - It is common for men to resist getting help out of a belief that they should be able to handle a problem on their own, or the expectation that it should just go away on its own.

Strong men don’t have emotional problems - The belief that men need to be strong, never show emotion and hide signs of weakness is a crippling belief. Mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD or even substance use disorder can create feelings of vulnerability, fear, insecurity, and weakness.

Men who isolate from others to avoid their feelings struggle internally, and their relationships at work and at home may also suffer.

Let’s give the men we love a chance to get out and relax and be pampered because they deserve it!

If they are not available for the ME TIME Package, they will surely love this promotional gift item.
