Timing is Everything!
You don't know what you don't know. But when you do, it can open up a whole new world! Sabrina shares with us how that came to be for her and her family.
My story started off in a “right place at the right time” kind of situation. You see, before winning a door prize at the Rock Your Bump Event, I had never heard of WP Creations! I just happened to be at this particular show and it just so happened that I won a fingerprint pendant and raised impression prize. Who would have thought?!
Little did I know at the time, what exactly that all meant.
My name is Sabrina and I am the current owner of Red Deer WP Creations here in Alberta. About 2 years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter I won the prize and after she was born, I went to redeem it. Naturally, as most people do, I fell in love with the products as well the idea of what it was to be able to work from home making memorable keepsakes for people.
I walked away from my appointment having been impressed but never really giving it too much more thought. I did always have it in the back of my mind, but never realizing it would ever come to fruition. During my mat leave, I had gotten wind that the previous owner at the time was selling her business. We knew that while I was on mat leave, it just wasn't the right time to go after it. But yet another seed was planted.
After my first mat leave was over, I went back to work in the construction business where I had spent 8 years. This lasted for about 3 weeks before getting laid off. The year of Covid has really done a number on so many people, and my husband and I were a couple of those people. He too got laid off, and it left us scrambling. With tight finances and zero income, we needed a plan. My husband, thankfully, was able to find a new job a month later, but as a woman coming from the construction business, finding work in any other industry was proving to be very difficult. 5 months had gone by and I still had not found a job. I thought to myself, OK maybe the universe is trying to tell me something. At this point, I had nothing to lose.
I decided to contact WP Creations to see if the Red Deer location was still for sale. It was! After a discussion with my husband, it made sense to for us to seize the opportunity. I am currently pregnant with our second child and with a new puppy in the house, the idea of being able to work from home with a flexible schedule while being able to contribute financially, has never been more important to me. So, we purchased the territory and I am now the new owner of the soon to be open Red Deer location of WP Creations!
I am so excited to be a part of the team of awesomely supportive women. I love that Jamie Berube, President & CEO, calls to “check in” for no other reason than to see how I'm doing. I love that my coaches are always around to help if ever I need anything from support with marketing to business licences and then some. Our online university platform is a wealth of information which is great that I always have access to. Becoming a part of this team is one of the best things about being part of a franchise. It's about the people.
I look forward to exploring various marketing tactics that I perhaps might never have explored had the restrictions of Covid weren't an issue. I enjoy thinking outside the box, so this is a challenge I will happily take on. I have a huge support system within my family and my community, having been born and raised in Red Deer. I am looking forward to networking with local realtors, photographers and radio personalities. With word of mouth and Social Media I intend to spread the word and reach as many people as possible. I don't want anyone else not knowing who we are and what we can do!
I don't know how or why things started the way they did, but I'm so glad it's lead me to where it did. I was not only able to have an adorable keepsake made for my daughter, but I was then also able to get a paw impression made of our fur baby before he passed. I can't imagine others not having the same opportunity.
And now I get to be the one who gives it to them. What an honour.
