A New Chapter at a Longtime Eatery Site Just Inside Town
Journeys into River Edge
There’s work and change taking place at a longstanding restaurant location in town – though many are not even aware that the location in question is even part of River Edge.
The address is 259 Johnson Avenue just south of Route 4 and next to the border with Hackensack at the Coles Brook.
Recently the place was called Rugova. It is slated to become “Sonny T’s” soon. There is a sign there announcing the change as work progresses transforming both inside and out.
The site has been a local favorite for food and drink going back decades under a number of names and differing formats.
Do you remember any of these earlier establishments?
(Clue: Two of the answers can be found in the comment section of a posting this week at “This is River Edge”. The third may be found in the picture below – that eatery/watering hole dating back to at least the 1950’s (That is where I remember it – maybe someone knows how much earlier it was in business there?).
What memories or thoughts do you have? I would welcome your take.
