Where to Learn More About New Milford & Its History

Journeys into New Milford

We think there is a lot of cool stuff to New Milford. Some is history, some is in its spirit, its sense of place and sense of community - the stiff that makes it unique, special - differntiating it from, say, Bergenfield, Oradell, River Edge....

This Journeys into New Milford is dedicated to telling some those stories. But ther is more.

For starters there is a great publication that has chronicled New Milford stories (oral history narrative) to mark this centennial year. We recommend it. See more at: https://www.newmilfordboro.com/home/180013952/180013952/Images/Oral%20history%20narrative%20012122%20hh.pdf

For anyone looking for a long view there is also the classic  "Story of New Milford", by Leon Smith (1964); Guide-Kalkhoff-Burr Press. The 112 page book tells the story of this place from the 1600's to the 1960's.

And, here is a brochure produced by the New Milford Historic Preservation Commission: https://www.newmilfordboro.com/home/180013952/180013952/Images/New%20Milford%20Historic%20Brochure-3.pdf

This being the digital age, there is a good Facebook page with over 4,000 members dedicated to New Milford nostalgia: https://www.facebook.com/groups/194205967307363/

Then there is you - we hope to collect your recollections, reflections and stories about New Milford, days from the past and just what it means to you today. We are hoping that together we can help pass forward the community's narrative.
