Journeys into Hackensack

Election Day locally has passed but as some results have still not been finalized, we felt that there was still a window open for us to share this cool picture of Dwight Eisenhower campaigning in Hackensack before the 1952 Presidential Election.

In addition to the candidate soon to become president a number of Hackensack images caught my eye.

For example one sees the classic Main Street lights (they would be replaced around 1960). There are a couple of vintage Public Service buses of that period in the motorcade. An in the background is the iconic and timeless image of the Sears store, only recently closed.

What else do you see? What does it trigger for you – either about Hackensack, that time period or the Presidential campaign of that year, or just how things were back then ?

Finally, as we post this image of General Eisenhower on this Veteran’s Day we thank of our Vets and say thank you for your service in our behalf.
