Cambridge's Lasting Tie to Canada's Centennial
A Journey into Cambridge
The celebration marking Canada's 150th anniversary is on. Big happenings are planned through 2017 - especially near Canada Day in July.
This 150th anniversary also provides an occasion to look back to 1967 when Canada and the community celebrated the nation's centennial.
The most impactful and lasting connection is the Centennial Fountain in that shape of a Maple Leaf that is to be found in Queen's Park.
Here is a Centennial Publication describing the Fountain and is debut.
The publication also contains an interesting article describing how four swans were donated to the community.
We read that restoration and refurbishment of the Fountain is occurring in the ramp up to this year's observances.
We look forward to sharing with you Cambridge's way of celebrating this year and whether any parallels may be drawn to how folks parted back in '67.
