Fatherhood: Parents Changing With the Times!
The ideal parenting target that all of us parents are aiming for always seems to be moving, doesn't it? Let's talk fatherhood!
It's very difficult to hit that bouncing bullseye when it just won't stay still as the role of the ideal parent keeps changing. Funny thing is, though, we often don't even notice the role of parents changing until it has already changed. Often, we just sort of feel it changing somehow and just sort of go with the flow, huh? We just do our best in these ever-changing times, and then one day, someone points out how parenting has changed, and we're like, "Yeah, that's what I've been seeing too!" So here's the bottom line, today's parenting isn't our parents' parenting.
Today, fathers are doing things that their fathers never did. Today's fathers work as their fathers did. But now, in addition, they also do laundry, dishes, cleaning, putting the kids to bed, and making the next day lunches, just like all the moms out there. Fathers even do these things sometimes in the place of watching the ballgame. Imagine that! Could the fathers of yesteryear even picture this new fatherly role? Parenting sure has changed. Men have changed. Fathering has changed. And once again, the world has been slow to recognize it.
Now, all you men out there, I know you thought that someday you'd be superheroes saving the world. But instead, are now changing diapers and saving your pennies so you can keep being that great dads and husbands that you are. Well, I say keep doing what you're doing. You are unsung heroes. And know this, you're deeply appreciated too, even if you rarely hear that spoken out loud.
Now, as my Granddaddy always said, "Go learn, lead and lay the way to a better world for all of us." Dads keep changing with the times and keep being the good men that you are. The world is a better place because of your efforts. And once again parents, you too Super Dads, thanks in advance for all that you do, and all that you will do...
