Threading for eyebrows and facial hair? How does it work?

Threading for eyebrows and facial hair? How does it work?

Threading is a method of hair removal originating in Iran, India, Central Asia and China gaining popularity in North America with a cosmetic application.

Trained threading practitioners at Waters Edge Salon and Spa can perform the procedure at an extremely rapid rate, and for many people, threading is less painful than waxing or plucking

Though eyebrows are the most popular area for threading in the Western world, in India threading was traditionally used to remove hair from other parts of the face as well. The upper lip, chin, sideburns and cheeks were all subject to hair removal by threading, and Waters Edge Salon and Spa offer these services in addition to eyebrow threading. Threading is not a good method for removing hair on arms or legs, as the hair in those regions is typically quite coarse and there is too much to remove.

Facial Threading

In threading, a thin (cotton or polyester) about the thickness of a dental floss thread is doubled, then twisted. It is then rolled over areas of unwanted hair, plucking the hair at the follicle level. Unlike tweezing, where single hairs are pulled out one at a time, threading can remove short rows of hair. Threading allows for a more defined and precise shape and can create better definition for eyebrows.

No chemicals or other tools are needed

The benefit of threading that most sets it apart from other hair removal techniques is its precision. While waxing and plucking can often leave unwanted stray hairs around your eyebrows, a threading artist goes through your hair row by row, giving eyebrows a clean and defined shape. Threading only removes hair, not skin, and because it is so exact, it can remove hairs that are finer than those that can be removed by waxing or plucking.

Threading for Everyone

People on medications or with certain skin conditions may turn to threading to remove their hair because it's gentler on the skin than some other types of hair removal. For example, some dermatologists recommend that people who use acne medications choose threading over waxing because the former only affects hair and not the skin underneath.
