This month, Google celebrated 15 years of launching the Google Maps platform by bringing the latest integration to it. A lot of companies, technology enthusiasts, Google users, etc. have been looking forward to the newest integration on Google Maps. Most of them were expecting this integration to show the number of cases around the people using Google Maps. Unfortunately, this integration is not about showing the active cases on the Map; rather, it shows the COVID-19 trends on the user’s screen.
This trend and integration are not meant to depict that you can roam around freely, get out of your home, or travel, etc. The cases all around the world have not reduced to zero, yet. So, it is better to stay wherever you are, stay safe, and keep others around you protected as well.
To use the latest unification, you must have the Google Maps app on your smartphone and make sure that you use the latest version only. After getting the update, click on the Layers icon (appearing as a stack of square boxes), and select ‘COVID-19 Info’ on the resulting screen. If you are using a browser-based version of Google Maps, you cannot use the benefits of the latest integration. Even if your smartphone doesn’t have the space to let you get the Google Maps update, you can still track the COVID-19 cases around you. Use Johns Hopkins University tracker/maps, Reddit’s “covidmapping” mashup, the 1Point3Acres case maps, or “Infection2020” maps as an alternative.
As Google Maps’ integration goes live for everyone across the globe, you will start seeing the average COVID-19 cases in the last seven days. You can not only check your area but can also review any location from around the world. You can track all the countries supported by Google Maps, including each state, data of the city-level, and more. Google wanted to ensure that you can check the COVID trends quickly and spot danger or active cases. To do so, they have color-coded everything so that you can easily spot an area. This feature will make it easy to understand the current situation around you and the neighboring counties.
Although this new integration will ensure safety, there are people around who still refuse to wear a mask and take necessary precautions. Google Maps will not alert you about such people, and it is you who have to be careful around such people. It is requested not to use Google Maps to plan a vacation around the safe parts of the country, and instead stay home. Lockdown has been lifted from some countries and locations, but it’s still unsafe to move around and put people’s lives in danger. We recommend you to use this integration carefully and be a responsible citizen.
