Breaking down the name D23, D is for Disney, and 23 refers to the year 1923 in which the Walt Disney company was founded. This fan club offers free and Gold (paid) membership as well. Their paid membership includes Disney 23 (a quarterly publication), yearly gifts, access to memorable Disney events, exclusive merchandise offers, discounts, and early access to the D23 Expo fan convention.
Talking about Disney’s biennial event, D23, it is a star-studded affair that offers breaking news about highly-anticipated films and TV shows. Ever since the outbreak of COVID-19, a lot of plans have changed all around the world. And, the Disney D23 event is also going to be part of this global change. The Disney D23 Expo event was initially scheduled for 2021, but due to the global pandemic, the associates had to change the dates.
Disney has decided to delay the event by a year, and now with the revised dates, the D23 Expo event will take place in 2022. On Monday afternoon, the company shared this news on their social media handle. They also announced that the 7th D23 Expo would take place on September 9-11, 2022 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. This event was initially planned for the summers of 2021. Please note that Disney did not specify the reason for the delay. But as per the speculations, it is probably happening due to the global pandemic.
Disney also stated that the revised date would coincide with the company’s founding in 1923 and it would mark Disney’s 100th anniversary. In all these years, The D23 Expo has been glitzy and has been creating a significant marketing opportunity for Disney.
The 2019 D23 Expo event featured various heart-throbbing talents like Chris Pratt, Dwayne Johnson, Tom Holland, Emily Blunt, along with some surprise reveals that features the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+ featuring prequel trilogy star Ewan McGregor. The 2019 Expo was also special because it marked the first time that Disney showcased projects from 20th Century Fox, with clips of upcoming films from Ford V Ferrari, Spies in Disguise, and The King’s Man.
At the same event, Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios presented extended looks at Frozen II, Onward, Soul, and announced the launch of ‘Raya and The Last Dragon.’ Even Marvel Studios revealed the first look of Black Widow, The Eternals, and announced Black Panther II. Unfortunately, Black Widow and The Eternals have been repeatedly delayed due to the pandemic. Even Disney experienced losses due to their theme parks and cruise, as these have remained shut for more than six months now.
