Grooming The Next Generation of Stylist at Artline Salon
Checking out the learning and competitive environment that drives innovation at Artline Salon in Belmont Village
As soon as we walked through the door we were greeted by a brightly lit studio decorated with natural textures. We notice immediately how much wood is present in the space and how it diffused light and sound giving it a different feel from other hair salons. Within seconds we are greeted by a young lady with long teal hair. The young lady's name is Bhan and she's a coop in training. Owner Lina Shamoun got her start this way, working the 3,200 hours with a licensed stylist she needed through the college of trades and moving from coop to apprentice to now, salon owner. She believes in continuing to bring the next generation of stylist into the cutting edge world of styling through competition.
Lina is proud that her studio is a culture of competition, not among themselves, but that her apprentices and staff continue to keep their skills sharp by partaking in industry competitions. Her team are continually exposed to new and innovative developments in the hair styling industry through competitions. Lina is a gold medalist at OMC Hair World and all of a sudden the dozens of mounted medals by the door start to make sense. Some of the winning hair styles are shown throughout the studio. In another area, a wall mounted set of shelves shows Lina's collection of antique hair styling equipment, a small passion of hers.
Clients of all ages visit Artline Salon with their oldest client being 90 and the youngest being 2. This young man named Cooper likes to have colour in his fringe and confidently chose pink in his last visit. While some salons operate as independent chairs, Arline Salon is a team based employee environment. Lina says it helps foster the most innovative solutions to hair styling and colouring when her team works together using their diverse skills.
On a large table in the center of the salon, sit more of Artline Salon's awards. These ones for being members of an organization called Greencircle Salons, a group that help divert salon waste from land fill and drains. Since 2016 Artline Salon has carefully recycled any product the Greencircle Salons program takes including leftover hair dyes and conditioners.
Artline Salon is not only producing the next generation of innovative hair stylists but they do it in a sustainable environmental way. Drop in to setup a hair appointment this week or use their online booking form.
