Release Tight Pelvic Floor Muscles for Pain Relief

Hypertonic muscles or a non-relaxing pelvic floor can be a major contributor to pelvic pain and discomfort such as tailbone pain or SI Joint pain.

Also known as Pelvic girdle pain, the term is used for many pain conditions. It could be pubic joint pain, tailbone pain, hip pain, pain with intercourse, pain in the vulva, pain at the entrance to the vagina, perineal pain, even anal or rectal pain.

A healthy body will tighten and relax the pelvic floor muscles in order to urinate or have a bowel movement. When you suffer from pelvic floor dysfunction, your body keeps tightening these muscles, and the tension may create problems such as incontinence or a proper bowel movement. (Fecal or Anal Incontinence)

Releasing tension is always my recommendation for a starting point along with seeing a pelvic floor physiotherapist.

Exercises for Pelvic Pain

Pain can have many contributing factors such as pregnancy, birth, surgery, falls, accidents, trauma, overactivity in the muscles, and even hormones. As we enter perimenopause our estrogen declines and this may cause vaginal pain or pain during sex.

Pelvic girdle pain is often closely associated with low back pain, and low back pain is strongly correlated with pelvic floor dysfunction.
