Madinat an-Nabi—meaning The Prophet City—was renamed al-Madinah al-Munawwarah—meaning The Enlightened City—after the death of Muhammad. Also, referred to as Medina, it is the second holiest city in Islam after Mecca. It is the place where Prophet Muhammed, peace and blessings be upon him, established the Muslim community after migrating from Mecca. Madinah is also his final resting place. Located in the Shuhada Martyrs District, Hamzah the uncle of the Prophet Muhammad known as the Lion of Islam grave is laid. Its is also believed Prophet Muhammed’s daughter used to visit the grave and tend it.
